I don’t blame you if you’re wondering whether you should ally yourself with Vlaakith or the Dream Visitor. The Undying Queen comes across as a power-hungry monarch, while the Dream Visitor’s mysterious nature makes them hard to trust.

That being said, I’ve explored all the choices and charted out all possible outcomes. If you want to know what happens next to make the best decision, we’ve got you covered.
Should You Obey Vlaakith or Trust The Dream Visitor?
Neither. Clearly, Vlaakith isn’t on your side and is merely using you to achieve her goals. No matter what you do to please her, it will eventually cause her to ask the remaining gith soldiers to attack you.
If that sounds bad, I can’t say The Dream Visitor is any better. They are also using you to advance their own agenda. No matter who you decide to help, the nature of Vlaakith will be revealed. However, assisting Vlaakith will also show you that The Dream Visitor is not as honest as you might have once perceived.
What Happens If You Don’t Obey Vlaakith?
When Vlaakith commands you to enter the Astral Prism, you must obey—defying Vlaakith’s order results in the Undying Queen annihilating you and your party. So, at the very minimum, you must say what she wants to hear and decide what to do afterward.

That said, entering the Astral Prism doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve sided with Vlaakith in Baldur’s Gate 3. You must venture further inside, eventually meeting your guardian, also known as The Dream Visitor. The guardian is the one Vlaakith wants dead. Now, you have the choice to either kill them to please Vlaakith or return and deal with the consequences.
Should You Kill The Dream Visitor in Baldur’s Gate 3?
The Dream Visitor can’t be killed. Trying to kill them will only make them angry. When you meet your guardian in the Astral Prism, they will ask you to believe and trust them. They will even hand you a knife themselves, giving you the choice to stab them right there.
However, doing so will reveal that The Dream Visitor was just testing you. They can’t be killed that easily and will voice how angry and disappointed they are at you for choosing to side with the Undying Queen. Whether you choose to kill them or not, you must return to the Githyanki Crèche.
How to Keep Lae’Zel on Your Side
If you want to keep Lae’zel in your party, or at the very least on your side, you must go along with Vlaakith’s requests and enter the Astral Prism. What you do there doesn’t matter much as long as you allow Lae’zel to read your thoughts after you’ve talked to The Dream Visitor.
The best thing you can do is to listen to The Dream Visitor’s story, learn about Vlaakith’s hidden motives, and then explain those hidden motives to Lae’Zel. This will let you convince Lae’Zel to stay in your party, and you want her around since she is one of the best characters in BG3. Besides, following this route will also give you a chance to make her understand the true nature of the Undying Queen.
