JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – From day one the Elk-Mckean All Stars said their mind set was to take it one game at a time; 14 wins later they are now representing Pennsylvania and the East region at the Junior League World Series in Michigan.

“We have a very good group of kids that just seem to get along, they’re like family. (There’s) almost no arguing between them, which is pretty uncommon for a bunch of 12 to 14-year-old kids. But that’s what we have, we’ve kind of got a perfect storm as far as a team to be able to make a run like this,” said assistant coach Mike Porter.

The boys of summer are made up of 13 players from Johnsonburg, Kane and Ridgway. The team is a day removed from defeating Delaware in come-from-behind fashion to clinch the East region and earn the birth in the World Series.

The coaches said it was been a crazy ride not only for the team, but for the communities. The coaches added that the outpouring of support from the community and donations from locals are what helped the team cover most of its travel expenses.

“To think that the kids and the parents and the coaches have been doing this for however many weeks, they’ve been doing it and to see their success and listen on the radio and follow through with the boys is just so galvanizing,” said Steve Cleveland, owner of Elk County Foods.

The boys are gathering Thursday night at the Johnsonburg Fire Hall for one last sendoff before heading to Michigan to compete in the World Series where they first play California Sunday at 11 a.m.
