Introduction

Colleen Ballinger shot to global social media fame as a hilarious one-woman comedy show and social commentator Miranda Sings.

With her excessive lipstick and crazy eyebrows—plus the accent—she’s seen a lot of goings-on in the YouTube community over the last decade.

She’s also launched her own Netflix series, been through a high-profile (and really drawn out) divorce, and found new love—and a bunch of babies!

So we know Colleen Ballinger is a California YouTuber, Netflix actor, singer, writer, vlogger, social media mom, and comedian.

We know she’s got 8.5 million YouTube subscribers to her personal channel, and that she had amassed another 10.9 million on her Miranda Sings channel by 2021.

She’s big…really big.

And here’s what we know about her.

The Origin Story

Colleen Mae Ballinger was born on November 21, 1986, in Santa Barbara, California.

Her parents are Tim Ballinger—a California sales manager—and Gwen Ballinger.

Tim and Gwen already had two boys—Christopher and Trent—before they welcomed Colleen to the world.

The youngest of the Ballinger kids was Colleen’s younger sister Rachel, who rounded out their family of six.

Ballinger was raised in Santa Barbara before she moved to the Big Apple in 2010.

She was 24 at the time, and hoping to pursue a performance career on the East Coast.

She had been on YouTube for a couple of years at this point, and she also wanted to see where that would take her.

The move was short-lived and Colleen was back in California within a couple of years—this time in Los Angeles.

Her move to LA in 2012 stemmed from a need to collaborate with other YouTubers to gain exposure and improve her content.

Since most YouTubers were moving to LA at the time, it was the best place for her to maximize her following.

The following year she met fellow YouTuber Joshua David Evans.

The pair dated for a couple of years before tying the knot in July 2015.

For the few years they were on our device screens as a couple, fans hailed them as #couplegoals.

By May of the following year, fans were starting to get suspicious.

Colleen was no longer in Evans’s vlogs, and he very rarely appeared in anything on her channel, either.

He responded to the questions in a video, denying that anything was wrong—and putting the absences down to the fact that Colleen was working in Canada.

Then in October of that year, it was all over, and none of their followers knew why—outside of the generic “please respect our privacy” lines rolled out on both their YouTube break-up videos.

Both Evans and Ballinger moved on, marrying other people.

Second Marriage

Ballinger moved out of the couple’s home and bought a new place in Encino, California.

She and Erik Stocklin—an actor who starred in Mistresses, Bones, Criminal Minds, and Lucifer—to play her crush in her upcoming Netflix series.

Life imitated art when the pair began dating the next year, and they got married in 2018.

In December 2018, they welcomed their first child—a son named Flynn Timothy.

Things took a strange turn in 2019 when Evans posted a 12-minute rant on YouTube called The Actual Truth About Everything. In the video—which Evans deleted a few hours later—he explained that he needed to make the video “to survive.”

While no follow-up to the video—in which he’d actually tell his story—eventuated, fans were talking about it for a minute.

By that stage, however, Colleen had remarried and become a mom.

In July of 2021, Colleen and Erik announced that they were expecting boy / girl twins later in the year. The announcement came hot on the heels of their YouTube pregnancy announcement after a devastating miscarriage in 2020.

On November 6, 2021, she gave birth to twins.

Climbing The Career Ladder

Colleen was on the road throughout most of 2015 with her one-woman comedy tour, followed by the launch of her Netflix series—Haters Back Off—in 2016.

Much like Miranda Sings on YouTube, the series focused on a comically untalented, borderline narcissistic character who has dreams of being famous.

Fans and critics alike adore Miranda Sings for its comedic take on toxic femininity.

Throughout that time, she’s also taken fans on a trip through her life with her personal vlog, the self-titled Colleen Ballinger.

Ballinger has also scooped a Teen Choice Award, a Streamy, and been ranked in the Forbes list of top influencers.
