PHILADELPHIA (WCAU) β A shocking discovery was made in Philadelphia after police found the body of a 12-year-old boy placed in a trash can.
Philadelphia police say a sanitation worker picked up a trash container from a street last Tuesday and took it to a nearby storage facility where it was housed overnight.
But only when he made another trip a day later, the body was discovered.
Authorities said an autopsy showed the boy was shot in the head.
Officials said they got their first break in the case two days ago, nearly a week after the discovery.
Family members were made aware and were able to positively identify the boy as Hezekiah Bernard
βOn August 23rd, that same PHA employee drove the sanitation truck with the container back to the 5500 block of Cherry Street to gather more trash. During the drive, the container overturned, and the remains of a boy were observed inside that container, with a plastic wrap around the head and a comforter over him,β said Inspector Ernest Ransom of the Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit.
Authorities said the Philadelphia police department is working with its homicide unit to solve the case.
